Thurs., May 22, do not miss this comprehensive look at California school systems by John Merrow, education correspondent for the NewsHour with Jim Lehrer on PBS. Did you know California school systems are educating 1 out of 7 future workers in United States? With so much on the line, how is the California public school system now doing in producing the next generation of workers? This compelling documentary explains the collapse of the California education system--from being one of the best school systems in the country back in the 50’s and 60’s to one of the worst now, as compared to other states across the country. Find out how this decline happened over the last 40 years and what we can—and must—do now to improve our schools. Following the screening, you are invited to stay for an important question and answer session with some of our nation’s leading authorities on educational issues. Special guests scheduled to participate include Dr. Deborah Stipek, Dean of Education at Stanford University, Marshall “Mike” Smith, Program Director for the Education Program at the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation, and public television’s leading educational journalist, John Merrow. Here’s your chance to get the “big picture,” and get truly informed, before casting your vote on the upcoming school bond measure on June 3rd.

This free event is proudly sponsored by Palo Alto PTA Council, Palo Alto PTAs, Los Altos-Mountain View PTA Council, and Partners In Education (PIE).
